Faithful God
“If I call, will You come? When I cry, do You hear,” are not only the tender lyrics of the beautiful song “Faithful God,” but the words also at times depict the deep questions of many Christians going through the storms of life. The song writer went on to answer his own questions with the words: “Faithful God. You hold my life secure, and all my days are Yours. I believe, and my God is like a fire defending me; faithfully.”
Sometimes, life seems to deal us blow after blow of heartaches, and sufferings. During those times, we can feel tempted to think that God does not hear nor does He care. On the contrary, C.S. Lewis made the observation: “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” God always speaks to you; especially in your sufferings. How does God speak in your trials?
First, God wants you to humble yourself under God’s mighty hand that He may exalt you in due time (1 Peter 5: 6). What does it mean to stay humble under God? It means to trust God even when you don’t have all the answers to your questions because God is good no matter what happens around you. Second, He wants you to cast all our cares upon Him, because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). God wants you to trust Him, because He is a faithful God Who promised to never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Third, He also warns you to be sober, and vigilant, because your adversary the devil is looking to devour you (1 Peter 5:8). When you go through the storms of life, it can be tempting to distance yourselves from God, from your church family and from other believers.
However, that is exactly where Satan wants you to be! He wants you to be alone, vulnerable, discouraged, and then destroy you and your family. Don’t stop going to God, and stay close to Him! Cling to Him tighter than ever before! Stay in fellowship at church with other believers who can pray for you, with you, and support you. By faith, God wants you to resist the devil when he tries to discourage you knowing that you are not alone in this fight. There are other believers all around the world who are also going through trials, and sufferings like you are.
Finally, the God salvation is the same God who will make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, and settle you through your trials (1 Peter 5:10). When you come through your trials with God’s help, you will be made stronger. This is especially against the storms of life, so you can now reach out to help those who might be struggling. Our faithful God will remain so to you through all the storms and trials of your life, and will bring you home to His eternal glory. Don’t let pain and bitterness drive you away from God, but cling to Him tighter than ever before! He is the only One Who can help you through your trials. God is nearer than you think, just a whisper of prayer away!
